Red Rose Horror: Horror Genre Reviews logo on black bacground

WELCOME TO A DIGITAL SHADOW CALLED RED ROSE HORROR WHICH IS...

...a horror review site and creative space curated by a PNW based writer and critic. Here horror is entertainment that turns a profit and is a mirror held up to society, capturing a particular perspective and point in time. This mirror can be used to inform about individuals, group dynamics, and the world at large, by diving into what motivates the fears; a theme throughout Red Rose Horror (RRH) stuff. RRH content includes singular reviews of horror media (movies, shows & more), overviews plus analyses of popular franchises, topical essays AKA Deep Dives (like cannibalism and feminine coming-of-rage subgenres), and video versions of last year's projects. If you're interested in knowing more about RRH keep scrolling for more blurbs or click the About page button below. The 3 buttons in the Articles section direct to those articles.

Content warning: All posts contain strong language, descriptions of graphic imagery and/or content and discussion of NSFW topics—if that isn't your jam that is okay. This is a space about fear, the things that terrify, and what that could mean. Spoiler warnings are provided in most posts but please proceed with caution.

About red font with white outline
Red Rose Horror circle spiral log

This site, Red Rose Horror, is comprised of reviews, essays, and videos dedicated to the horror genre. These include a wide range of movies, shows, and books from a variety of time periods and styles. Incorporating my personal insights, historical context, and behind the scenes details I write about what is haunting, harrowing, and horrifying. Additionally RRH posts, particularly more recent ones, attempt to include what horror can reveal about topics like grief, rage, gender, race, and the shadows of society. My writing style blends poetic voice with analysis backed by sourced research that is rooted in a deep love and reverence for horror. Like many horror fans I’m interested in what scares us and not only why we seek out that scare but what that says about us as well as what it sometimes doesn’t say. In my horror reviews I try to go beyond the surface and pin down the meanings, historical context, truths, emotions, lessons, and influence. In particular my writing sets out to examine horror as not only entertainment but as a mirror held up to society. These reflections are communicated through a combo of character archetypes, plots, themes, marketing, box office results, audience or critic reviews, and more.
