Welcome to Red Rose Horror, a horror review blod/website an aspiring author from the PNW, I'm in my 30s and my core belief is not too different from other genre fanatics: horror is in everything, and everything is in horror. In addition to channeling my horror rants into RRH posts I also write poetry, fiction, short stories, and nonfiction essays with more information on my author site by clicking below.
Prior to writing Red Rose Horror reviews I spent way too much time, money, and energy on horror, and now I mostly if not exclusively write horror. Like many genre fanatics since I started reviewing horror a couple years ago I've come to believe that everything is in horror and that horror is in everything.
In part I mean literally anything can be a horror movie with tweaks to aspects like music, plot framing, post production art direction, and pacing. I believe all horror movies include or reference deeper themes and plots that dive into the spectrums of human emotion better than other genres can even if that movie didn't set out or intend to do that but opting to read between the lines. In addition to being cross generational box office successes I believe horror is an excellent time capsule for everything from style to what is horrifying.
My opinion is obviously bias towards horror but many RRH posts pursue the deeper arguments and provide evidence to try to support the conclusions drawn. In addition to this overarching theme to my horror reviews I incorporate the historical and pop culture context, background info, and the audience's reception when reviewing & critiquing media.
In many ways we can learn about broader society, culture, and sometimes ourselves by examining the media that is produced from it and how different groups have responded to that media throughout history. All RRH related things seek to contribute to that larger longterm conversation while simultaneously serving as a personal creative outlet and way to work on writing, website development, and graphic design skills.
The horror I review includes but isn't limited to movies, shows, subgenres, horror topics, industry trends, full franchises, platforms, and history.
My author website, linked by clicking the image or text in this section, is where I post about other writing projects. That includes: fiction novels and short stories, poetry, nonfiction essays, and anything else that doesn't fall under the horror review umbrella.
