The most recent Paranormal Activity installment released October 29, 2021, titled Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin, sticking with the format of the other recent franchise releases that opted for stand-alone names and stories. Directed by William Eubank (Underwater 2020) and written by Christopher Landon (several other of the Paranormal Activity) it is just a good horror movie flat out.

The Halloween franchise strikes again with the next installment, Halloween Kills (2021) directed by David Gordon Green, featuring the Halloween queen herself, Jamie Lee Curtis returning as Laurie Strode. More than one time during this slasher flick I found myself screaming at the screen “WHY?!” when characters made decisions that led to Michael Myers adding another victim to his list of kills.

From the start we jump right into the action, the monster, Larry, seeks to take children and lure them through communicating via en eBook called, “Misunderstood Monsters,” that updates throughout the movie. The story updates are part of the tool that Larry uses to communicate with the children it is grooming to take.

The Saw franchise began as a single movie simply title Saw that hit theaters in 2004 costing less than $1.2 million to make with a concept that came about due to limited resources available to the creators. As James Wan’s directorial debut the success of Saw is apparent in the numbers, generating roughly $108 million at the worldwide box office with 54% of that being domestic.

Let me start by saying I left this movie with more questions than answers, confused about what I'd just watched. I laughed more than I cowered and I yelled obscenities at the TV more than once because nothing about it made sense to me. The whole time I felt like the direction of the story was being chosen by a Magic 8 Ball rather than a coordinated effort to craft a horror story about a malignancy.

The movie Candyman 2021 delivers on the promises that the trailer makes, particularly if you're going in not expecting the previous movies to be entirely intertwined in this installment. The beef is more of a general issue with modern media but nonetheless still a problem and that problem, to put it simply is: the endings don’t make sense anymore. We all remember the final season of Game of Thrones. Eight seasons of beautiful character and world building culminated in a final battle viewers couldn't see and bizarre endings for the most beloved characters. The predictions, hopes, and insights went unanswered and a desire to rewrite history.

This is an opinion based post but I have other Jennifer's Body review posts. Long, long ago in a time before we realized we all knew what late stage capitalism was Jennifer’s Body (2009) premiered following a typical horror press tour that focused on the lead, Megan Fox's attractiveness. To the dismay of teenage boys across the world the film catered to an audience not sitting through over an hour of content just to see a naked Fox swimming in a lake.

The Netflix miniseries, Brand New Cherry Flavor, premiered August 14, 2021 to buzz around the avant style and deadpan delivery of the lead. Similarly to other horror titles Brand New Cherry Flavor is based on the novel of the same title by Todd Grimson. Straight from the trailer it’s clear that a mysterious, albeit naive wannabe artist is on her way to LA and gives an air of desperation that would be easy to take advantage of in a city with LA's reputation.
