In this post I argue the thesis: the audience driven success of Get Out (2017) encouraged more money invested in making black horror. This investment resulted in more black voices successfully telling black stories through the genre which helped push the genre forward while validating unspoken pains experienced by many in the community and generating large return on investments.

This list of movies coming out in 2025 was initially posted June 7th, 2025 and I plan to update it occasionally as more movies come out, are announced, and/or if I have a post-watch review. Not all movies will be reviewed because there are over 96 including the ones discluded. Reviews will also be brief and to the point that don't reveal too much and are spoiler-free. Directed by James Wong and written by Glen Morgan and James Wong the 3rd installment of Final Destination follows a similar formula to the first 2 films. In the review of the first film I went over the first film which was inspired by Jeffrey Reddick’s spooky experience while traveling. Jump to the third film however and we are following a completely disconnected group of high schoolers, seemingly random as far as the franchise is concerned.

I found the beginning and end of Until Dawn really engaging and fun to watch. I liked learning about the characters, their thoughts and feelings, and wanted them to succeed at the end. That being said I did like the outcome and found the call backs to other scenes good nods and finishing moments to top the film off. I don't want to spoil too much about this movie because I think it feeling clever came from me not knowing too much going into it.

There are parallels throughout between expectations for a robot and expectations for a girlfriend, often times the concepts being interchangeable when discussed amongst the characters. Even the lead up to the plot introducing Iris as a robot seems wildly normal as far as what we expect to see in romantic comedies. Regardless if you partake in 420 or April 20th festivities or not, it happens to be on Sunday this year and upcoming weekends provide an opportunity to rest and recharge. Personally my rest and recharge includes horror movies, in particular new movies I haven't watched yet. This year I watched 2 international movies from 2024 on Shudder: Grafted and MadS.

Rather than start on a high note with the widely agreed upon "best" seasons, those being 1-5, and then slowly go down the weird, windy path.
