Companion (2025)
There are parallels throughout between expectations for a robot and expectations for a girlfriend, often times the concepts being interchangeable when discussed amongst the characters. Even the lead up to the plot introducing Iris as a robot seems wildly normal as far as what we expect to see in romantic comedies. Despite us following Iris' POV we don’t question off-rip why we only see Iris in any context outside of Josh and her relationship with Josh, she doesn’t have a worl

The Skeleton Key (2005)
On the surface The Skeleton Key (2005) comes off as an average horror thriller film of the time, taking audiences along to question the main character’s sanity and if supernatural elements could be the root cause. Kate Hudson portraying Caroline Ellis is a 25 year old who recently lost her dad while pursuing the roadie tour life which is the reason for her sudden career shift. For the pay of $1,000 a week she moves into this mansion to care for an elderly man but the job isn'

Get Out (2017)
Not too long ago in a place not so far away Black horror meant low budget, badly scripted, comedy-adjacent, straight to TV projects. Rather than a subgenre of horror it was simply a punchline with some notable good additions that tried to break out of that stereotypical box to no longterm avail. From the widespread introduction of the concept the movie stood apart from others immediately in an obvious way: it spoke to Black audiences rather than about Black audiences.

1BR (2019)
1BR isn't perfect but it does provide an interesting story that is told from multiple perspectives at different points in time throughout Sarah's indoctrination. I like that the indoctrination is shown before going into the tactics used, it made them feel more impactful as a viewer that I too had been tricked by their methods. So often we brush off noises as our own paranoia or eccentricities in particular if that individual is a woman that lives alone like Sarah is when she

Incident in a Ghostland (2018)
I love twists and trying to guess the twist if I know there is one or being shocked by an unexpected twist, 2 of my favorite horror movie features. With the Incident from a Ghostland 2018 recommend from a horror fan I figured why not with the expectation I’d scroll around social media if and when I lost full interest. While watching however I was shook that I couldn’t look away and rewound multiple times to make sure I didn’t miss clues, hints, or references in the detail lad

Better Watch Out (2016)
When it comes to Better Watch Out, the 2016 Christmas film directed by Chris Peckover, I didn’t plan on being fully engaged when we put this movie on. It was more of a random choice from a list of holiday movies but I was pleasantly surprised how engaging the seemingly obvious plot becomes. I went in assuming Better Watch Out would be a typical babysitter horror film but sooner than I anticipated this anticipation was met with an outcome I didn't quite predict.

Saw (2004)
The Saw franchise began as a single movie simply title Saw that hit theaters in 2004 costing less than $1.2 million to make with a concept that came about due to limited resources available to the creators. As James Wan’s directorial debut the success of Saw is apparent in the numbers, generating roughly $108 million at the worldwide box office with 54% of that being domestic.

Malignant (2021)
Let me start by saying I left this movie with more questions than answers, confused about what I'd just watched. I laughed more than I cowered and I yelled obscenities at the TV more than once because nothing about it made sense to me. The whole time I felt like the direction of the story was being chosen by a Magic 8 Ball rather than a coordinated effort to craft a horror story about a malignancy.
